The Bromelton Energy and Resource Centre (BERC) is a landmark $800 million Energy-from-Waste facility set to redefine Queensland’s waste and energy landscape. Located on a 62-hectare parcel within the Bromelton State Development Area (SDA), the site is part of a Special Industry Precinct designed for complex, hard-to-locate infrastructure.

Therefor Group is proud to support Cleanaway in delivering this pivotal initiative – providing planning and project advisory services that span due diligence, site acquisition, stakeholder engagement, and strategic approvals.
Our collaborative approach has been instrumental in coordinating government agency input, navigating technical assessments, and shaping a robust approval pathway. Through clear, values-led communication, we help build the social license to operate – strengthening investment confidence and long-term project viability.
BERC aligns with the Queensland Government’s Waste Management and Resource Recovery Strategy by diverting up to 760,000 tonnes of residual waste from landfill annually – around 12% of Queensland’s total. This waste will be transformed into sustainable energy in the form of steam and electricity, while also recovering valuable materials such as construction aggregates and metals.
The project will enhance energy security, broaden the energy supply base, and support the local economy through job creation and supplier opportunities. It also sets a new benchmark for environmental performance, using proven technologies that meet high sustainability standards.
