Set in the heart of Ipswich’s growing community, the Windle Road Sporting Precinct Master Plan is a bold vision for a healthier, more connected future. Ipswich City Council engaged Therefor Group to reimagine a local-level sports ground – not just to meet the Desired Standards of Service, but to create a space that truly reflects the needs and aspirations of the surrounding communities.

From the outset, our team approached the project with a deep understanding of place, people, and purpose. The master plan brings together a diverse mix of sporting and recreational facilities: rectangular fields, a cricket oval, multi-purpose courts, junior fields, and cricket practice nets. These are supported by play spaces, shelters, lighting, and a public amenity building, all woven into a circuit pathway that links with existing bikeways. With parking for up to 250 vehicles and supporting infrastructure like irrigation systems, a clubhouse, and storage, the precinct is designed to be inclusive, accessible, and future-ready.
But this project is more than infrastructure – it’s a story of environmental stewardship and community wellbeing. Sustainability was central to the design, with innovative stormwater management using an existing water body for irrigation, and a rehabilitation strategy for Ironpot Creek that enhances ecological health and creates new pedestrian connections. These initiatives reflect our commitment to designing spaces that serve both people and the planet.
Through collaborative planning, thoughtful design, and a strong focus on long-term value, the Windle Road Sporting Precinct delivers a multifunctional space that promotes health, inclusivity, and regional pride.
It’s a place where sport, nature, and community come together – and a testament to Therefor Group’s dedication to leading change through sustainable, impactful design.
