Project Overview
Therefor Group supported Brisbane Girls’ Grammar School (BGGS) through the provision of town planning and surveying services for its new Junior School on Gregory Terrace, Spring Hill, opposite the historic inner-city campus.
The addition of a ‘little sister’ to the senior school will allow for BGGS to increase its offering to include Years 5 and 6, unlocking a new era within the school’s long-standing legacy in Spring Hill. The project involves the adaptive reuse of the former QCWA building into a 6-storey vertical school campus that will provide a state-of-the-art educational facility featuring administration areas, a tuckshop, amenities, eight classrooms, a flexible learning area for sciences and art, a library, dedicated performing arts rehearsal spaces, and an outdoor terrace with a landscaped playground.
Project Outcomes
Therefor’s Planning Team was engaged by BGGS from the initial inception of the project through to approval, coordinating, and managing the development application to gain timely approval to ensure the repurposed building can be opened for the 2026 school year.
The team skilfully navigated potential impacts on existing surrounding land uses and its location along Gregory Terrace, which was pivotal to maintaining positive relationships with neighbours and stakeholders.
Therefor focused on leveraging the innovation of an adaptive reuse and vertical school, taking into consideration BGGS’ long-standing history in Spring Hill to advocate for the project’s importance and community benefit.
The Survey Team was an important component of Therefor’s multidisciplinary approach to delivering this project.
Leading Change
Through an approach that repurposed and adaptively reused the existing building, Therefor was able to demonstrate a strong commitment to sustainability and innovation. This commitment extended to the “vertical school” design, maximising inner-city land for key uses, delivering a unique educational facility and experience for students, and unlocking the next chapter for the school.
With the goal of “leading change” in mind, this project is purposeful and sustainable, with long-lasting benefits to the community.
