Project Overview

Robelle Domain Stage 3 is a 15,000sqm citywide linear park designed to enhance Springfield’s recreational trail network by connecting Orion Lagoon to the future Jubilee Parklands.

Therefor Group’s Landscape & Architecture and Environment Teams were proud assist in the design and delivery of this project, sharing the goal of delivering a vibrant, connected, and inclusive parkland that balances recreation, cultural storytelling, and landscape infrastructure.

Strategically located between Sinnathamby Boulevard and Barry Alexander Way, the park integrates active and passive recreation opportunities, including formal walking and cycling paths, activation nodes with exercise and parkour elements, and vibrant public art installations. Key spaces, such as the underpass and major gateways, feature lighting, colour, and dual-language signage to honour Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander culture.

The park design prioritises connectivity and ecological sensitivity through shared pathways, a pedestrian-focused shared zone, and a natural stormwater management system with Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) elements. Drawing inspiration from White Rock Spring Mountain Conservation Reserve, the planting palette features native grasses, shrubs, and shade trees while maintaining open sightlines. Durable, low-maintenance materials were softened with turf and planting, aligning with Robelle Domain’s established character.

Through collaboration with stakeholders and cultural representatives, the project will deliver a vibrant, inclusive, and accessible parkland that celebrates cultural heritage, supports recreation, and strengthens Springfield’s identity.

Project Outcomes

Therefor Group was proud to work with Ipswich City Council and the wider project team to achieve the following outcomes and objectives:

  • Creating Exceptional Places: The project transforms an underutilised corridor into a vibrant linear park that enhances community connectivity, safety, and recreational opportunities.
  • Environmental Stewardship: The natural-appearing stormwater channel, habitat restoration, and use of native vegetation demonstrate a commitment to environmental sustainability. The park’s design prioritises Water Sensitive Urban Design (WSUD) principles. Native planting inspired by White Rock Spring Mountain Conservation Reserve enhances biodiversity, reduces water use, and supports local ecosystems.
  • Functionality and Connectivity: The linear park improves Springfield’s recreational trail network, connecting Orion Lagoon, future Jubilee Parklands, and surrounding developments. Safe, formalized pedestrian and cycle pathways encourage active transport, accessibility, and healthier lifestyles.
  • Innovative Thinking: The activation of underutilised spaces, such as the underpass, through lighting, art, and pathways is an innovative response to safety and placemaking challenges. Creative elements like colourful follies, interpretive signage, and dual-naming highlight cultural narratives, blending storytelling with modern design.
  • Materials and Character: Materials selected prioritised durability and low maintenance, featuring raw concrete, steel, and galvanized finishes softened with turf and native planting.
  • Collaboration: The successful delivery of the project relied on a collaborative approach involving stakeholders, cultural representatives, and the client.
