Project Overview
As part of the Queensland Government’s commitment to providing accessible, safe and reliable public transport services for all Queenslanders, the Government is progressively investing $357 million towards improving accessibility at Southeast Queensland train stations.
Under Queensland Rail’s $300 million Station Accessibility Upgrade Program, there are several confirmed Queensland Rail station upgrade projects at various stages of development – from planning and design, through to construction or completion. An additional $57 million has been committed towards accessibility upgrades for a further six stations, from Fairfield to Salisbury (F2S), to be delivered as part of the Cross River Rail initiative.
Therefor Group’s Survey Team was proud to be engaged on this project, assisting in the upgrade of a number of train stations around the state.

Project Objectives
Aside from the delivery of the survey function in a timely, professional, and efficient manner, the Survey Team had additional workplace health and safety requirements to consider.
Surveying rail corridors is challenging due to the highly congested and potentially dangerous work environment. However, by utilising modern survey technologies, Therefor Group was able to rapidly and safely capture the required survey scope with minimum risk and disturbance to staff as well as to QR standard operations.
Key outcomes included:
- Laser scanning was used to safely and rapidly capture highly detailed and accurate dataset of the existing station facilities to aid in design, development and site architecture and engineering.
- Utility location services were used to determine the location of underground assets to minimise project risks and ensure proposed design works did not clash with services.
- Conventional survey work and plan preparation was utilised to provide detailed information and plots of the existing site conditions.
