Project Overview
Therefor Group was engaged by Ipswich City Council to develop a Master Plan for a local-level sports ground that met Council’s Desired Standards of Service while addressing the current and future needs of the surrounding communities.
The design included diverse sporting facilities such as rectangular fields, a cricket oval, multi-purpose courts, cricket practice nets, and junior fields. Complementing these were a perimeter circuit pathway integrated with existing bikeways, a public amenity building, play spaces, shelters, lighting, and parking for up to 250 vehicles. Additional infrastructure included sports field irrigation systems and facilities like a clubhouse, storage, and access control measures, ensuring a comprehensive and accessible community space.
The Windle Road Sporting Precinct Master Plan represents a thoughtfully designed sports ground that balances recreational needs with environmental sustainability and accessibility. The facilities cater to a diverse range of activities and provide critical infrastructure to support the health and well-being of the local and regional community, while also preserving and enhancing the natural landscape.

Project Outcomes
The project’s primary objective was to deliver a high-quality, diverse sporting and recreational facility that promotes community health and well-being. The scope included:
- Analyzing site opportunities and constraints.
- Developing a comprehensive concept design with supporting visualizations.
- Preparing a safety in design report.
- Providing a detailed concept estimate.
Environmental and sustainability considerations were central to the plan, with innovative stormwater management solutions utilising an existing on-site water body for irrigation and a rehabilitation strategy for Ironpot Creek. This included assessing the creek’s condition and exploring pedestrian connections via a local linear park. By balancing high-quality recreational infrastructure with environmental sustainability, the project promotes health, well-being, and accessibility, creating a valuable asset for the local and regional community.
The design incorporated a wide array of sporting and recreational facilities, including multiple sporting areas, recreational and supporting features, and supporting amenities.
By combining thoughtful design, innovative problem-solving, and environmentally responsible initiatives, the project successfully delivered a high-quality, community-centered facility that aligns with contemporary needs and future growth.
